Mission & Purpose

Mission: To improve host plant resistance to insects in ICRISAT mandate crops (sorghum, pearl millet, groundnut, chickpea, and pigeonpea) for sustainable crop production.

Purpose: Development of insect-resistant cultivars through the exploitation of insect-resistant germplasm of cultivated crops and their wild relatives using wide hybridization, marker assisted selection and genetic engineering of crops for insect resistance, and to share the materials and information with stakeholders.
